Aesop's Fable

The Ant and the Grasshopper

One summer’s day, a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart’s content. It saw an Ant passing by, carrying a heavy load of grain back to its nest.

"Why are you working so hard?" asked the Grasshopper. "Come and play with me instead!"

The Ant shook its head. "I am storing food for the winter. You should do the same before it's too late."

The Grasshopper laughed. "Winter is far away! There is plenty of food now." And it continued to dance and sing, ignoring the Ant’s advice.

When winter arrived, the Grasshopper found itself hungry and cold. It went to the Ant's nest and begged for food.

But the Ant replied, "You sang all summer, now you must dance through the winter." And it shut its door, leaving the Grasshopper to learn a hard lesson.

Moral:

Prepare for the future instead of wasting time on idle pleasures.
