How to avoid making 100 mistakes

11.Many/much and plenty of/a lot of

Dallimi midis “many/much” dhe “plenty of/ a lot of”

The expressions a lot of, plenty of and a great deal of are preferred in

affirmative clauses. In questions and negatives, we usually use much or many.

Togjet e fjaleve “a lot of”, “plenty” dhe “a great deal of” perdoren ne fjalite pohore. Ne format pyetese apo negative, zakonisht perdorim “much” ose “many”

Compare: Krahaso:

· I have a lot of work to do. (NOT I have much work to do.)

Kam shume pune per te bere.

·Do you have much work to do? (More natural than 'Do you have a lot of

work to do?')

A ke shume pune per te bere? ( Me e natyrshme se “Do you have a lot of work to do?”)

No, I don't have much work to do. (More natural than 'No, I don't have a lot.

of work to do')

Jo, nuk kam shume pune per te bere.

·Plenty of people want to buy cars.

Shume njerez deshirojne te blejne makina.

· Are there many people who want cars?

A ka shume njerez qe duan makina?

Yes, but there aren't many people who can afford them. (NOT There aren't

plenty of people who can afford them.)

Po, por nuk ka shume njerez qe mund t’i perballojne ato (shpenzimet e tyre).

Many is occasionally used in the affirmative, but much is almost never used in that way. The expressions a lot of, plenty of and a great deal of are almost never used in the negative, but they are occasionally used in questions.

“Many” me raste perdoret ne formen pohore, por “much” pothuajse asnjehere nuk perdoret ne ate menyre (ne pohore). Shprehjet “a lot of, “plenty of” dhe  “a great deal of” pothuajse asnjehere nuk perdoren ne formen negative, por me raste perdoren ne pyetje.
