51. Elder dhe eldest
• Incorrect: He is elder than me.
• Gabim: Ai është më i madh se unë.
• Correct: He is older than me.
• Saktë: Ai është më i madh se unë.
• Incorrect: He is the eldest man in the village.
• Gabim: Ai është njeriu më i madh në fshat.
• Correct: He is the oldest man in the village.
• Saktë: Ai është njeriu më i madh në fshat.
Elder and eldest can be used to talk about the order of birth of the members of a family.
Elder dhe eldest mund të përdoren për të folur për rendin e lindjes në një familje.
Note that they are only used before nouns.
Vini re se ato përdoren vetëm para emrave.
After a verb we use older or oldest.
Pas një foljeje përdorim older ose oldest.
• My elder/older brother is a writer.
• Vëllai im i madh është shkrimtar.
• His eldest/oldest son is in the Army.
• Djali i tij më i madh është në ushtri.
• He is older than me. (NOT He is elder than me.)
• Ai është më i madh se unë. (JO: He is elder than me.)
Elder and eldest can’t be used in the predicative (after a verb) position.
Elder dhe eldest nuk mund të përdoren në pozicion predikativ (pas një foljeje).
