Adverbials of manner Ndajfoljet e mënyrës

 Adverbials of manner

Ndajfoljet e mënyrës

Adverbs of manner are usually formed from adjectives by adding –ly:

Ndajfoljet e mënyrës zakonisht formohen nga mbiemrat duke shtuar -ly:

bad > badly

quiet > quietly

sudden > suddenly

but sometimes there are changes in spelling:

por ndonjëherë ka ndryshime në shqiptim:

easy > easily

gentle > gently

careful > carefully

The adverb formed from good is well:

Ndajfolja e good është well:

  • You speak English very well.

Adverbs of manner normally come after the verb:

Ndajfoljet e mënyrës normalisht vijnë pas foljes:

  • He spoke angrily.

or after the object:

apo pas kundrinorit:

  • He opened the door quietly.

Complete the sentences by changing the adjectives (in brackets) into adverbs.

Plotësoni fjalitë duke ndryshuar mbiemrat (në kllapa) në ndajfolje.

  1. We lost the football match 4–2 yesterday. I don't think we played _______ (bad) but the other side played really _________ (good).

  1. You drive quite _______ (dangerous). I won't be surprised if you have an accident one day!

  1. 'You're late!' said Olga ________ (angry). 'Where have you been?'

  1. The teacher spoke so ________ (quiet) that the class couldn't hear her.

  1. This is a very important question. Please think ________ (careful) before you answer.

  1. In 1483, King Richard III of England _________ (secret) killed his two young nephews.

  1. When I broke my leg, my friend Pam __________ (kind) offered to do the shopping for me.

  1. Paulo Coelho is one of my favourite novelists. I think he writes _________ (beautiful).

If an adjective already ends in -ly, we use the phrase in a …. way to express manner:

Nëse një mbiemër e ka vetë mbaresën -ly, ne përdorim shprehjen në një mënyrë për të shprehur mënyrë:

  • silly: He behaved in a silly way.

  • friendly: She spoke in a friendly way.

A few adverbs of manner have the same form as the adjective:

Disa ndajfolje mënyre kanë të njëjtën formë si mbiemri:

  • They all worked hard.

  • She usually arrives late/early.

  • I hate driving fast.

Be careful!

Kini kujdes!

hardly and lately have different meanings from hard and late:

hardly (mezi) dhe lately (së fundmi) kanë kuptime të ndryshme nga hard (vështirë) dhe late (vonë):

  • He could hardly walk. = It was difficult for him to walk.

  • I haven't seen John lately. = I haven't seen John recently.

We often use phrases with like as adverbials of manner:

Ne shpesh përdorim shprehje me like si rrethanorë mënyre:

  • She slept like a baby.

  • He ran like a rabbit.

We very often use adverbials with like after link verbs:

Ne shpesh përdorim rrethanorë me like pas foljeve lidhëse:

  • Her hands feltlike ice.

  • It smellslike fresh bread.

Be careful!

Kini kujdes!

We do not use adverbs of manner after link verbs. We use adjectives instead:

Ne nuk i përdorim rrethanorët e mënyrës pas foljeve lidhëse. Në vend të tyre përdorim mbiemrat:

  • They looked happy. (NOT happily)

  • That bread smells delicious. (NOT deliciously)

Use the words to complete the sentences.

Përdorni fjalët për të plotësuar fjalitë.
