 3.   It - nje kryefjale e domosdoshme

 

Edhe përgatitësja it mund të përdoret gjithashtu në ‘cleft sentences’. Në këtë rast fjalët që duhen emfatizuar bashkohen zakonisht me fjalinë lidhore me anë të that.

 Krahaso:

-      My secretary sent the bill to Mr Harding yesterday.

It was my secretary that sent the bill to Mr Harding yesterday. (jo dikush tjetër, por sekretarja)

It was the bill that my secretary sent to Mr Harding yesterday. (asgjë tjetër por faturën)

It was Mr Harding that my secretary sent the bill to yesterday. (jo dikujt tjetër, por zotit Harding)

It was yesterday that my secretary sent the bill to Mr Harding. (jo një ditë cfarëdo, por dje)

 

Strukturat negative gjithashtu janë të mundura.

-      It wasn’t my husband that sent the bill…

 

Kur fjala që emfatizojmë është një kryefjalë e shprehur me një emër vetor, në vend të that mund të përdorim who.

-      It was my secretary who sent…

 

Kur emfatizojmë një kryefjalë shumës, folja merr gjithashtu numrin shumës.

-      It was the students that were angry… (JO: …that was angry…)

 

Kur kryefjala që emfatizohet është një përemër, ekzistojnë dy mundësi. Krahaso:     

-      It is I who am responsible. (formale)

It’s me that’s responsible. (informale)

-      It is you who are in the wrong. (formale)

It’s you that’s in the wrong. (informale)

 

Për të evituar si të qenit tepër formal ashtu edhe tepër informal do të mund të thonim p.sh.: I’m the person/the one who’s responsible. Duhet të keni parasysh që në strukturat që kanë brenda tyre pregatitësen it folja nuk mund të emfatizohet: NUK mund të themi p.sh.: It was sent that my secretary the bill…
