Sometimes certain people, teachers included, feel that they have done their duty by simply trying to teach others to read. When you decide to act the teacher it's of primary importance to help the pupils or students get something worth reading.

Books, stories, tales, fables, verses which stir  their imagination, will help them make sense of their own lives and encourage them to reach out toward people whose lives are quite different from their own.

Hope this evening, Phil Bossman will help us feel good and be helpful whenever needed.

 A hunting image

One evening,
During the TV news,
I was shocked by a picture,
A picture flashing between
The usual nightly scenes
Of wars and calamities.
Just before the sports news
There was a picture that got in between
For just a second.
A picture from one of the richest
Countries of the world,
With remarkable welfare services,
Where, from candle to grave,
Everyone is cushioned.
A picture from Sweden.
I saw an old man lying on the pavement.
I saw people walking past him.
The announcer said
that this man had been lying there for hours,
without anybody turning round to look at him.
Finally, a police car came.
The man was dead.

This picture haunts me,
It is a picture
from a dead, decadent civilization.
Did nobody see this man fall?
Why had nobody covered him up?
This is a public murder by indifference.
Or, to his fellowmen,
perhaps this man had already been dead
for a long time.
You know how small, how poor, how lonely, how
weak and how vulnerable people are.
You know that there are tears that nobody will ever care about.
You know that there is almost no sorrow greater than that of
a heart which nobody understands.
You know that life
is an unbearable pain for some people.

 Hi there,
Wish you all had a nice day today and hope tomorrow will be better. I simply wanted to share a quote with you this evening.

Reading is important.

In fact, it is one of the most important ingredients to becoming all that you can be.
Reading develops your brain, provides a window into the world around you and helps you do better in all school subjects.
Most importantly, reading can not only help you become a better student, but a better person.  You can learn from the brightest people whenever and wherever you choose.
As important as reading is did you know that:
  • 800 million people around the world cannot read or write
  • Many families (and some schools) have no books for children to read
There are likely many children and people in our town that fall into this group.  My hope is that one day you become a strong reader. Helping others to read is an amazing gift that you can give.
Enjoy the following fable!
fm

The Gnat & the Bull

A Gnat flew over the meadow with much buzzing for so small a creature and settled on the tip of one of the horns of a Bull. After he had rested a short time, he made ready to fly away. But before he left he begged the Bull's pardon for having used his horn for a resting place.
"You must be very glad to have me go now," he said.
"It's all the same to me," replied the Bull. "I did not even know you were there."
We are often of greater importance in our own eyes than in the eyes of our neighbor. The smaller the mind the greater the conceit.

Jungle

When I come into contact with people and with human need, I often get the feeling that I’m in the jungle.
I watch the way people are being crushed, sometimes in
the friendliest possible way, simply flattened by a
human steamroller.
Modern barbarians are often neatly-dressed gentlemen
Sitting behind shining desk. They push buttons and
sign letters. They never dirty their hands.
Their weapons are locked up in the safe. In the world of business and the world of finance there are merciless
gangsters who make it their business to strangle the
small and the weak.
In the world of the sick, of the old, of the disabled,
In the world of people who once made mistakes,
In the world of people who are totally dependent on others, there is a sort of monstrous exploitation. Weak people and people in distress are extra-vulnerable.
This is why greed and
Love of money are even more horrible where these
People are concerned. Isn’t it inhuman to grow rich on
the back of someone else’s need?
When I work among helpless people, love-not money-must come first.
If my profession is to care for the sick, the old, the
disabled or the suffering, I must above all, understand
and love them.
Here, it is much more important to
serve than to earn, anyone whose only interest is to
make money out of need is guilty of one of the lowest
forms of exploitation.

The following passage is from the same book as last time.

fm

Civilization?

Hate and armaments surround us.
The newspapers scream out about murder, violence and scandals.
And we call ourselves civilized people, cultured people, real
humanitarians.
And we call ourselves Christians, while
we are busy squashing out the awkward annoying
cross from that same Christianity.
We no longer feel like making an effort, a sacrifice.
We choose Christianity in an easy chair, with warm
bed and a full larder. We camouflage our finely
developed conceit with superficial, cozy words.
Recently, in the suburbs of Paris, I met a poor Flemish
priest working among the needy.
In history, he said, we had a period of heroes and of will-power.
After that, the romantic period. In the nineteenth century,
the time of enlightenment and the intellect.
Today,we live in the culture of instincts. Yes, of the instincts:

money, sex, violence and consumption’’.

Several months ago we started to read together pages from the book "Give Happiness a chance".
We haven't finished it yet. We will resume reading it this evening with the following page.
Hope and wish you are going to enjoy it.

Tower of Babel

I am dismayed by people’s awful inability to get on with
Each other, to understand each other, to love each other.

Press, radio and TV dish up an almost deadly

Daily dose of war, violence, murder, brutality-it’s a

Senseless show. Enough to suffocate us.

All these conferences, committees, protests,
Manifestos and debates don’t seem to improve
Mutual understanding.
In his own way, everyone wants to work towards
Peace and a better world. But no one seems willing to
Forgive, to bury the hatchet. No one seems to be determined to change himself.

Everyone wants to
Blame someone else . Everyone wants to accuse, attack
Or make someone else responsible. That way we are
Heading back towards the tower of Babel. We are
Possessed by the spirit of Babel-the feeling of
Confusion, contradiction and darkness.

Just for once, try to be quiet and calm. Give time to
Discovering the feeling of peace, of God, of love. If this
Rewards. They are fantastic rewards. They have these names: love, joy, patience, friendliness, kindness, faithfulness, comfort, gentleness and simplicity.

Hi there,
With the hope that the first fable was good enough to your taste, following you will find a second one. Enjoy reading it!
 fm

The lion & the mouse
A Lion lay asleep in the forest, his great head resting on his paws. A timid little Mouse came upon him unexpectedly, and in her fright and haste to get away, ran across the Lion's nose. Roused from his nap, the Lion laid his huge paw angrily on the tiny creature to kill her.
"Spare me!" begged the poor Mouse. "Please let me go and some day I will surely repay you."
The Lion was much amused to think that a Mouse could ever help him. But he was generous and finally let the Mouse go.
Some days later, while stalking his prey in the forest, the Lion was caught in the toils of a hunter's net. Unable to free himself, he filled the forest with his angry roaring. The Mouse knew the voice and quickly found the Lion struggling in the net. Running to one of the great ropes that bound him, she gnawed it until it parted, and soon the Lion was free.
"You laughed when I said I would repay you," said the Mouse. "Now you see that even a Mouse can help a Lion."
A kindness is never wasted.

Good evening there,

Another week is coming over filled with a lot of stories for each one.

As soon as you leave from the class, I feel proud of you all.
I feel proud of what I experience out of the time we pass together and the great hopes you leave behind.

I wish I were your age!

We have often been talking about reading and I totally agree with what most of you say about it.
First of all, reading is fun.

I feel really good because it was not me who said it,but it was one of you.
It is nice to see all your modern devices in your hands but is is even nicer to see that you are willing to start your corner of reading.

As such, this evening, I will simply add a fable to read and I will be looking forward to your suggestions for the coming days.

With the large variety of genres, there’s something for everyone. Fancy some action? A drama in which you can find characters to identify with, because you feel sad and lonely? Something more down-to-earth, like a reportage about a country or a historical period you’re interested in? Just find the right shelf at the library.

Have  a great evening!

The Wolf & the Crane

A Wolf had been feasting too greedily, and a bone had stuck crosswise in his throat. He could get it neither up nor down, and of course he could not eat a thing. Naturally that was an awful state of affairs for a greedy Wolf.
So away he hurried to the Crane. He was sure that she, with her long neck and bill, would easily be able to reach the bone and pull it out.
"I will reward you very handsomely," said the Wolf, "if you pull that bone out for me."
The Crane, as you can imagine, was very uneasy about putting her head in a Wolf's throat. But she was grasping in nature, so she did what the Wolf asked her to do.
When the Wolf felt that the bone was gone, he started to walk away.
"But what about my reward!" called the Crane anxiously.
"What!" snarled the Wolf, whirling around. "Haven't you got it? Isn't it enough that I let you take your head out of my mouth without snapping it off?"

Expect no reward for serving the wicked.

Hi there,

Being away for a time is not always bad. So after a while, we see each other again with the great hope of staying in touch.

When your English is no more a baby, then it is necessary to learn a few more things from the grammar point of view.

I invite you all to have a close look at the following words.

Imperatives, infinitives and –ing forms

First, try to find out what  the meaning of these three words are in English. As soon as you start to look up their meanings you will notice that;

E fillojme me gjetjen e kuptimit te tyre sipas nje fjalori;

1)    Imperative = (grammar) the form of a verb that you use for telling somebody to do something: ‘ Listen!’ ‘ Go away!’ Both sentences are in the imperative

Imperatives

WE USE IMPERATIVES FOR GIVING ADVICE AND INSTRUCTIONS.

Pra, perdorim menyren urdherore per te dhene keshilla dhe instruksione.

Run early in the morning –it’s better.
Meet me at eight o’clock.
Always wear comfortable clothing.
Never run in fog.
Don’t run if you’ve got a cold.
Don’t tell Barbara.
Come and have a look.
Don’t waste your time at the bars!
Be patient!
Give with your heart.
Remember that life needs you.

2)   Infinitives with to

Examples: to see; to go

Infinitive = (grammar) the simple form of a verb. We sometimes use the infinitive with to, and sometimes without, depending on what comes before it.

He can swim.
He wants to swim.

Ne gjuhen shqipe, kjo fjale ka kuptimin paskajore.

We use infinitives with to:
After certain verbs (for example hope, want, have, would like)

I hope to see you soon.
I don’t want to go home.
You have to change at Coventry.
Would you like to dance?

After something, anything, nothing

Would you like something to eat?
Have you got anything to drink?
There’s nothing to do.

To say why we do things (infinitive of purpose)

Why did you come here? To see you.
You got to a supermarket to buy food.
Infinitives without to
Examples: see; go

We use infinitives without to:
After the special verbs can could will would and do

I can speak English.
Could you speak more slowly?
It will rain tomorrow.
What would you like?
Does he smoke?
Don’t stop.

After let’s

Let’s all go and see Ann.

3)  -Ing form

MENYRA PERCJELLORE

Kjo menyre ne gjuhen angleze ndertohet thjesht duke I shtuar nje foljeje te caktuar mbaresen - ing.
Patjeter qe ka disa rregulla drejtshkrimi ne ndertimin e saj,por qellimi i mesimit te sotem eshte i mjaftueshem me kaq.

 Examples: see + ing = seeing; go+ing=going

After certain verbs (for example like love hate)

I like speaking French.
I love going to the theatre.

In progressive tense

What are you doing? I’m writing letter.

After all prepositions

Thank you for coming.
She’s good at swimming.
